756th AMXS COC

Lt. Col. James Upchurch will relinquish command of the 756th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron to Lt. Col. Dominick Martin in a change-of-command ceremony at 8 a.m. May 23 in Hangar 913.

LOSC luncheon

12 men, women needed

The Luke Air Force Base Library needs members who would like to read to children at toddler preschool story time 9:30 to

Health seminar

The Luke Air Force Base Fire Emergency Services is featuring Spring Training for the Healthy Heart seminar 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 24 at the base theater. For more information, call Marty Yates at (623) 856-3761.

‘Arsenic and Old Lace’

The Luke Experience is featuring “Arsenic and Old Lace” at 7 p.m. May 24, 25, 31 and June 1 at the base theater. The Luke Experience is also looking for adults, ages 18 and older, who are interested in acting, singing, improvisation and backstage support. For more information, call (623) 856-9949.

Police week

Throughout the week, the 56th Security Forces Squadron will host events , with the first event beginning at 9 a.m. Monday in the commissary parking lot. The event includes police departments from Glendale, Phoenix and the Air Force Office of Special Investigations. There will be 56th SFS Military Working Dog demonstrations and a combat arms display of modern weapons used in ground combat today. For families, there will be face-painting and a special guest — McGruff the Crime Dog. Learn how police departments work together and the tools they use. Additionally, Wednesday there will be a golf tournament at the Falcon Dunes Golf Course for all base personnel and local police agencies. A retreat ceremony in recognition of the 38th anniversary of the SS Mayaguez incident will be held Thursday at the base flag pole. The 56th SFS will also feature a car wash May 17 at the Luke AFB Airman and Family Readiness Center rear parking lot.

Boston marathon fund

The 56th Fighter Wing Boston Marathon Relief Fund is featuring a walk/run and candlelight vigil 6 to 10 p.m. May 10 at the Luke Air Force Base Bryant Fitness Center track. The purpose is to honor those affected by the tragic events surrounding the 2013 Boston Marathon and raise funds for “The One Fund.” The fee is $20 per person, and the first 150 people each receive a T-shirt. Check-in is 5 p.m. For more information or to sign up early, call Senior Airman Robin Hansen at (623) 856-7535.

Read-2-Bowl program

For each book read at the appropriate age level, Luke Air Force Base children, ages 6 to 12, receive a certificate or one free game of bowling at Thunderbolt Lanes after submitting a book report verified by library personnel. Registration is required. For more information or to register, call (623) 856-7191.

APAH Month

May is Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month. APAH items will be on display at the Luke Air Force Base Library throughout May. A Taste of Asia food event will be held May 17 at the Community Chapel and a luncheon, open to the base community, will be held 11 a.m. May 23 at the Navy Operational Support Center on Luke. The luncheon will feature local Asian-Pacific inspired food and cultural performances. For more information, call (623) 856-3052 or email mary.williams.33@us.af.mil.

Mother’s Day brunch

A Mother’s Day brunch is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. The cost is $27.50 per adult, $17.50 for children ages 6 to 10 and children under 5 eat free. Club members get a $2 discount. Reservations are required. For more information, call (623) 856-6446.
