SFS squeaks by MOS in golf tourney

Joshua Hoffman, 56th SFS, prepares to drive the golf ball downrange on the 5th hole.

The 56th Security Forces Squadron defeated the 56th Maintenance Operations Squadron 73-72 during an intramural golf tournament June 20 at the Falcon Dunes Golf Course.
The 56th SFS team remained confident despite the 56th MOS team taking a quick three-hole lead to begin the match.
“Our team will continue to be competitive, and I think we have a good chance,” said Joshua Hoffman, 56th SFS.
Hoffman and his teammates soon turned the tide as they began chipping away at the 56th MOS lead. They started placing their shots in the fairway, on the green and even birdied a few holes. The SFS team took the lead and held on to a one-hole lead to finish the match.

The victory gave SFS their first win, and their record now stands at 1-1.
Though the teams are in the tournament to compete, the camaraderie and getting away from the work place for a break is just as rewarding, said Robert Helvie, 56th SFS.
His teammate Hoffman agrees.
“It’s fun to play,” he said. “But just as important is the networking amongst the squadrons while they’re working on their golf games.”

Gratitude cultivates exceptional leadership

Several months ago I was inspired by the phrase “cultivate an attitude of gratitude.” The topic was presented in a religious context; however, I found these words significant and profound when considered as a tenent of exceptional leadership. Cultivate is an action verb. The word brings to mind images of an experienced gardener patiently tending...

Leadership vs. management

Have you ever had a boss or someone that made you want to come to work every day, someone you would do anything for without question? Then you were probably working beside a leader, not a manager. The biggest difference between managers and leaders is the way they motivate people who work for or follow...

Safety begins with asking ‘What could go wrong?’

I’m sure most of us have been told to “be safe” at some point either by a commander, supervisor or even a co-worker. This holiday season will probably not be any different. Someone will use this simple phrase in the next few weeks, and it will feel like a cliché to you, but what does...
