As I write this, former antiapartheid leader and former South African president Nelson Mandela is on life support at age 94. Mandela spent years as a revolutionary fighting racism and the government policy of “apartheid” in his beloved South Africa. For this, Mandela spent more than a quarter of his life, 27 years, in prison.
When asked about courage and fear in his life, he replied, “I’ve learned that courage is not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it … I felt fear myself more times than I can remember, but I hid it behind a mask of boldness. The brave man is not he who does not feel fear, but he who conquers that fear.”
May God grant you the ability to conquer any fears you face, resulting in the courage to be all you are called to be in this world.
