AF ball – Save the date

The Air Force Ball is Sept. 14 at the Wigwam Resort and Spa in Litchfield Park in the Main Ballroom. The theme is Evolution of Airpower. Invitations will follow. Look for more details in upcoming issues of the Thunderbolt.

Finance office hours change

The finance customer service office will open at noon today due to an official function. The office will resume normal business hours of 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday.

Running clinic

The 56th Force Support Squadron Health and Wellness Center is featuring a running clinic 6 to 7 a.m. Monday through Aug. 23. For eligibility requirements or for more information, call Senior Airman Lakindra Favors at 623-856-7063.

Summer bowling programs

Thunderbolt Lanes is offering unlimited bowling Wednesday, Thursday and Friday through Aug. 30 to the Luke members below at the following times:

Dorm residents: 3 to 8 p.m. with a one-time charge of $14.95. Shoe rental is $2.25 per adult and $1.75 per youth.

Kids Club, youth enrolled in high school: 11 a.m. to
5 p.m. Shoe rental is $1.75.

Family pass: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a one-time charge of $19.95. Shoe rental is $2.25 per adult and $1.75 per youth.

Backpacks of Love

The annual Backpacks of Love drive has begun. The backpacks collected are donated to the New Life Center, a domestic violence shelter in Avondale. The backpacks filled with school supplies go to the almost 300 children a year living at the shelter. Donations can be dropped off now through Aug. 15 at Bldgs. 1010 or 931. Youth Employment Skills Program

The Luke Air Force Base Youth Center has openings for the 2013-2014 YES Program. This on-base volunteer program offers students, grades 9 through 12, an opportunity to learn work skills while banking dollar credits toward their education. Students may accumulate 250 volunteer hours for a maximum of $1,000 over all four years of high school. For more information, call the youth center at 623-856-7470.

Keystone Club Teen Council

The Keystone Club Teen Council is for teens to gain leadership and service experience. Teens conduct activities in three areas: academic success, career exploration and community service. Members elect officers, work to solve issues impacting military teens and voice concerns to the highest level of Air Force leaders. For more information, call the youth center at 623-856-7470.

Military youth of the year

This youth recognition program is for Luke Air Force Base Youth Center members, age 14 through 18. All members can benefit from participation in this program which promotes and celebrates service to the youth center, community and family, academic performance, moral character, life goals, poise, and public speaking ability. The program fosters character, personal growth and leadership qualities. The winner travels to Washington to represent Luke and may win college scholarships. Boots to business

The Luke Air Force Base Airman and Family Readiness Center is featuring a two-day transition assistance program self-employment intensive training workshop at 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 14 through 15 and Nov. 6 through 7 at the A&FRC. The purpose of the workshop is to learn about starting a business, if various business ideas are feasible and to get assistance in developing a plan for future ventures. To be eligible, attendees must be a transitioning service member, veteran or spouse interested in starting a business. To register, or for more information, call 623-856-6550.
