Chaplain thoughts

“Ethics is defined as knowing the difference between what you have a right to do and what is the right thing to do.”

~Potter Stewart

Potter Stewart, former Supreme Court justice, defined ethics as, “Knowing the difference between what you have a right to do and what is the right thing to do.” Do you want to transform your relationships? If so, put this saying into practice. When someone says something hurtful to you, you have the “right” to lash back. However, is it the right thing to do? If someone treats you in a disrespectful way, you have the right to defend yourself. But, is it the right thing to do? Relationships spiral down because we focus on our rights in these situations rather than on what is best for the relationship. Try forgiving instead of getting even. Forgiveness is giving up my right to hurt someone who hurt me. Try it and watch your relationships become more healthy.
