Air Force Ball golf tournament
The 2013 Air Force Ball golf tournament is a four-person team scramble at 7 a.m. Sept. 5 at the Wigwam Golf Resort in Litchfield Park. Registration is 6 a.m. and the sign-up deadline is Sept. 3. The cost is $40 per military and retirees and $50 per civilian and distinguished visitors. Lunch is included. For more information, call Master Sgt. Howard Suggs at 623-856-8118.

Temporary early retirement program
Enlisted Airmen seeking early retirement should read PSDM 13-73, which has been posted to https://myPers.af.mil, for guidance. For more information, email afpc.dpsor.retsepbranch@us.af.mil.

AF ball – save the date
The Air Force Ball is scheduled for Sept. 14 at the Wigwam Resort and Spa in Litchfield Park in the Main Ballroom. The theme is Evolution of Airpower. Invitations will follow. Look for more details in upcoming issues of the Thunderbolt.

Backpacks of Love
The annual Backpacks of Love drive has begun. The backpacks collected are donated to the New Life Center, a domestic violence shelter in Avondale. The backpacks filled with school supplies go to the almost 300 children a year living at the shelter. Donations can be dropped off now through Aug. 15 at Bldgs. 1010 or 931. Youth Employment Skills Program
The Luke Air Force Base Youth Center has openings for the 2013-2014 YES Program. This on-base volunteer program offers students, grades 9 through 12, an opportunity to learn work skills while banking dollar credits toward their education. Students may accumulate 250 volunteer hours for a maximum of $1,000 over all four years of high school. For more information, call the youth center at 623-856-7470.

Keystone Club Teen Council
The Keystone Club Teen Council is for teens to gain leadership and service experience. Teens conduct activities in three areas: academic success, career exploration and community service. Members elect officers, work to solve issues impacting military teens and voice concerns to the highest level of Air Force leaders. For more information, call the youth center at 623-856-7470.

Military youth of the year
This youth recognition program is for Luke Air Force Base Youth Center members, age 14 through 18. All members can benefit from participation in this program which promotes and celebrates service to the youth center, community and family, academic performance, moral character, life goals, poise, and public speaking ability. The program fosters character, personal growth and leadership qualities. The winner travels to Washington to represent Luke and may win college scholarships. Boots to business
The Luke Air Force Base Airman and Family Readiness Center is featuring a two-day transition assistance program self-employment intensive training workshop from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 14 through 15 and Nov. 6 through 7 at the A&FRC. The purpose of the workshop is to learn about starting a business, if various business ideas are feasible and to get assistance in developing a plan for future ventures. To be eligible, attendees must be a transitioning service member, veteran or spouse interested in starting a business. To register, or for more information, call 623-856-6550.

Give parents a break
Free childcare is offered 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 10 for families with a member deployed or on an extended temporary duty assignment, or remote tour; families experiencing crises or emergencies such as illness, death in the family or a birth; families with special-needs children; or families with unique circumstances or hardships. Families must be referred by a squadron commander, first sergeant, chaplain, medical professional, family advocacy personnel, Airman and Family Readiness Center personnel or child development center personnel. Reservations are required by Aug. 2. For more information, call 623-856-6550.
