As your new Air Force Chief of Safety, my sole purpose is to preserve our most critical asset – you! We’re halfway through the Critical Days of Summer campaign, an important milestone since we’ve historically seen an upsurge in fatalities in the second half of the season.

We can help turn this trend around by keeping a strong safety outlook – in the air, on the ground, all the time. We Airmen are aggressive by nature, and risk is inherent in our mission. But there’s a difference between being aggressive and being reckless. So stay focused on your mission, follow AFI, policy and tech order guidance, and be ready to report unsafe conditions to your chain of command.

Off duty, I encourage you to take advantage of the summer weather and seasonal activities – just be smart about it. Whether riding a motorcycle, competing in a triathlon, water skiing, or relaxing at the pool, have the right gear and the right mindset. Think through what you’re going to do before you do it and look out for each other.

Airmen are the chassis of every weapon system in our Air Force – and your safety is crucial to our combat capability. So let me thank you for the noble work you do every day, and let’s get after it –stay Safe ‘n Sound – All Year Round.
