Neubauer-mug
KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. — Maj. Gen. Kurt Neubauer assumed the duties of Air Force chief of safety and commander of the Air Force Safety Center July 15.

Reporting directly to the Air Force chief of staff, Neubauer develops, executes and evaluates Air Force aviation, ground, weapons, space and system mishap prevention and nuclear surety programs.

The general served previously as the 7th Air Force vice commander, Air Forces Korea, chief of staff, Air Component Command, Osan Air Base, South Korea; and Luke Air Force Base commander July 2008 through September 2010.

His career includes a variety of operational and staff positions, including command at the squadron, group and wing levels. He served as the chief of staff of the Air Force chair at the National War College, Fort Lesley J. McNair, Washington, D.C., and as the commander, 332nd Air Expeditionary Wing at Joint Base Balad, Iraq. Neubauer is a command pilot with more than 4,000 flight hours in the F-16, including over 500 combat hours.

“It’s a privilege to lead our Air Force safety professionals who provide top cover to safeguard our Airmen,” Neubauer said. “Our Air Force safety ethos is absolutely vital to our mission and to preserving combat capability.”

Neubauer succeeds Maj. Gen. Margaret Woodward who now leads the Air Force Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Office at the Pentagon.
