SFS dominates MOS in championship

Randy Felciano, 56th Security Forces Squadron, throws a pitch during the softball championship game July 29 against the 56th Maintenance Operations Squadron at Luke Air Force Base. SFS defeated MOS 21-8 in the third game, which determined the championship.

The 56th Security Forces Squadron softball team defeated the 56th Maintenance Operations Squadron team 21-8 during the intramural softball championship July 29 at the Luke Air Force Base Bryant Fitness Center softball field.

MOS opened the game by scoring four runs in the first inning and kept the momentum going from then on. By the time SFS was up to bat, MOS was already leading 12-0.

SFS wasn’t going down without as fight as they were able to bounce back and score four runs during the second inning.

Even though SFS gave it their all, it wasn’t enough to stop MOS from winning the first game 21-9.

The second game determined whether MOS would win it all, or if SFS will have another chance to redeem themselves.

SFS started off strong in the first inning with a 1-0 run. The MOS was not able to score at all during the first inning. SFS seized the opportunity and went on a 6-0 run to finish the second game with the score 14-4.

The third and final game decided who will take home the championship trophy. SFS took their momentum from the second game and brought it to the third game. They started off the first inning with a 12-0 run. The MOS defense fell off completely allowing SFS to earn those easy runs.

But the MOS found a way to respond back with a 4-0 run to bring the score to 14-4.

SFS was scoreless during the second inning which MOS took advantage of and went on another 4-0 run to bring the score to 14-8.

Unfortunately, the two back-to- back 4-0 runs weren’t enough to stop SFS from winning the ball game with the score of 21-8.

“Our goal was to keep everyone motivated and keep them in the game,” said Randy Felciano, 56th SFS chief of reports and analysis. “The second and third game just showed how we kept each other in the game in order to win the series.”

Strong followers challenge authority

It’s not surprising that when I tell subordinates to challenge authority, I often get a look of confusion. Admittedly, this is a step used to provoke thought. Obviously, we don’t need subordinates undermining their leader’s authority. My intent is not to create insubordination — it is to underscore the importance of strong followership. Great leaders...

However, it happens way too often that we ignore those opportunities....
