THUNDERBOLT OF THE WEEK

Staff Sgt. Leslie Eccles
56th Operations Support Squadron
Intelligence Operations Fighter Squadron
Support NCO-in-charge

TBOTW
Hometown: LaVergne, Tenn

Years in service: Four

Family: Parents, Donna and Joseph Eccles and brother, Joseph

Education: Have completed a Community College of the Air Force degree

Previous assignments: Royal Air Force Mildenhall, England

Inspirations: My first inspiration is from my savior, Jesus Christ, then family and coworkers. Without my faith in Jesus, I would not be able to complete the task of being an Airman. He keeps me calm, and he helps me to see I really can do all things through him. My family supports me emotionally and my coworkers are always trying to make me better.

Goals: I would like to become a runner, make technical sergeant the first time testing and have a successful life after the military.

Greatest feat: Heading up the young adults group at First Baptist Garden Lakes.

Commander’s comments: “Staff Sgt. Eccles has contributed to the 56th OSS Intel Flight since she arrived in January, 2012,” said Lt. Col. Keith Rockow, 56th OSS commander. “She leads the daily support to Luke’s U.S. and coalition fighter squadrons, oversees the predeployment briefing program, isolated personnel report preparation and more. Her initiative impresses me the most. She’s proactive, engaged and has the ‘send me’ attitude.”

Obviously, we don’t need subordinates undermining their leader’s authority. My intent is not to create insubordination — it is to underscore the importance of strong followership. Great leaders...

Travel access, opportunities not to be ignored

Possibly one of the greatest and overlooked gifts we have in the military is our ability to travel. More often than not, we are stationed at bases around the world where we have the access and opportunity to travel and see the local sites. However, it happens way too often that we ignore those opportunities....
