Chaplain thoughts

“I don’t think of all the misery but of the beauty that still remains.”
– Anne Frank

Having an attitude of gratitude doesn’t happen on its own. It takes intentionality to survey our lives and the world around us and see the beauty. There are many negative things that seek to cast a shadow over all that is positive. The local, regional and global news are often largely focused on the tragedy of the day. It is normal to be discouraged by all the madness. However, a central attribute of emotional and spiritual maturity is gratefulness. Taking a moment each day to list (in thought or on paper) the things we are thankful for gives us perspective. It calibrates our hearts and equips us to serve others better. We all face challenges. When those challenges seem to dwarf you, remember the good things. Here are a few examples of things that I easily overlook: my faith, my spouse, my crazy kids, friends, a nice home, food, education, opportunities to grow and tremendous coworkers. Take some time to survey the good things. You might be surprised by how much blessing is in your life.

Blessings from above …
