Chapel open positions

The 56th Fighter Wing Chapel has four open positions. Resumes are required for all positions and must be submitted no later than 4 p.m. Oct. 8. Bid documents and full requirements are available at the Luke Air Force Base Community Chapel, 13968 West Shooting Star Street.

FOD walk

The 2013 56th Fighter Wing Annual FOD Walk is 7 a.m. Sept. 27. Airmen should be in their assigned places no later than 6:45 a.m. The 56th Maintenance Group and 56th Operations Group will be responsible for coordinating transportation for members within their group. Carpooling is encouraged.

The 56th Mission Support Group and 56th Medical Group will have two buses available to pick up personnel starting at 5:45 a.m. in Bldg. 1150 east parking lot. Two buses will be available at 5:45 a.m. in the Club Five Six parking lot to pick up MSG Airmen. The buses will have maps coordinating the drop-off points for MSG and MDG.

Base service station closing

The Luke Air Force Base service station will close certain hours this month. All vehicles must refuel prior to 11:59 p.m. Sept. 27. Emergency and first responder vehicle refuels can be coordinated through the fuels service center by calling 623-856-7392 from 12:01 a.m. Sept. 28 through 11:59 p.m.

Sept 29. The station will reopen at 8 a.m. Oct. 1. For more information, call 623-856-7392.

POW/MIA ceremony

There will be a POW/MIA retreat ceremony at 4 p.m. today at the base flag pole north of the wing headquarters building. The guest speaker is retired Brig. Gen. Ralph Browning.

Third-party insurance collections

All nonactive-duty beneficiaries using 56th Medical Group facilities must sign the electronic Department of Defense Form 2569 on an annual basis. This allows the military to bill other health insurance companies for medical care, including pharmaceuticals. Electronic DD Form 2569s can be signed at any clinic within the 56th Medical Group and at the satellite pharmacy. Beneficiaries are no longer required to carry the blue card once they have signed the electronic DD Form 2569. For more information, call James Mitchell at 623-856-4057.

LEAD block party

The LEAD Council block party is 3 p.m. Oct. 4 at Fowler Park. There will be free food and drinks, individual and team challenges, and prizes. The 56th Fighter Wing family and friends are welcome to attend.

Hispanic Heritage Month events

The Hispanic Heritage Month Committee is featuring a breakfast burrito sale fundraiser weekday mornings at the chapel annex, an art display today at the library, a 5k fun run in honor of David Barkley Oct. 3, food sampling at 11:30 to 1 p.m. Oct. 15 at the chapel annex and a closing ceremony luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 10 at the Navy Operations Support Center. Lightning Leadership

The Lightning Leadership committee is holding full spectrum leadership discussions for Airmen at

Crafts for a Cause

A Crafts for a Cause class to make Christmas cards to be included in care packages for deployed service members sent by Blue Star Moms of the Southwest Valley will take place at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Luke Air Force Base Library, Bldg. 219 in the quiet study room. Earn an EPR bullet. The materials will be provided and children are welcome. For more information, call 623-856-7191.

Airman’s Attic volunteers

The Airman’s Attic is looking for volunteers to work the hours of 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Thursday and the first and third Saturdays of the month. It is located in Bldg. 750. To sign up or for more information, call Staff Sgt. Breeann Frost at 623-856-7535.

Car show

The 2nd Annual MDG “Tune Up for Health” Car Show is 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 1 at Club Five Six. The committee is looking for muscle cars, classic cars, hot rods, motorcycles, sand rails and decked out lifted vehicles expected to arrive by 6:30 a.m. and be on display until 2 p.m. Nov. 1 and 8 to noon Nov. 2 at Retiree Appreciation Day. Stand up for Veterans

A Stand Up For Veterans event is 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 28 at Glendale Community College student union. Free haircuts and free lunch for veterans and their families will be provided. For more information, go to www.standforvets.com.

Fire Prevention Week

Fire Prevention Week is Oct. 6 through 11. Luke Fire Emergency Services firefighters will be conducting demonstrations, answering questions and handing out fire safety materials from 9 a.m. till 3 p.m. at the Exchange and commissary parking area.
