“Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.”

~ Thomas Edison

During the California Gold Rush, there was a man who sold all he had and bought a gold mine. He worked for many months and found nothing. Finally, in frustration he gave up and sold it to people in the East. Several years later, the new owners decided to check the mine for gold. They found the rusted pick where the old miner had abandoned it and the lantern where it had sat when it went out. They started to dig, and before long they found gold! They had dug only six inches. The old miner had been six inches short of the gold! Moral of the story: never give up on life! Sometimes mining gold (and living life) can be harder than expected, obstacles will get in the way, tools will break, but we must forge on because life’s value is not measured in moments but in a lifetime of work and achievement.

Balance, key to successful AF life

I believe proper balance is the key to a successful life in the Air Force. New form second chance to do EPRs right

Without fail, every time I am around a group of young NCOs, there is one subject guaranteed to come up — the enduring question of “How can I write a stronger EPR for my Airman?” My answer to this question is fairly standard and is one that a chief shared with me many years ago....

Plan for final out

How many of you are prepared for life outside of the military? Seriously, if you were told tomorrow was your final out, what would you do? We are currently in an environment where Defense Department rollbacks are a serious issue we must all contemplate. Fewer officers are being commissioned. Last year there was only one...
