The first pass of the game was thrown short, setting the tone for the undefeated 56th Communications Squadron flag football team as they took on the undefeated Navy team.

The final score of the game was 24-6 with the Navy defeating the 56th CS.

As the 56th CS gained first downs and got closer to the end zone the Navy defended harder, resulting in the first interception of the game just two minutes in. The Navy pulled ahead in the first half with a score of 6-0.

The rest of the first half, the 56th CS managed to defend the end zone from the Navy’s repeated attempts. There were three interceptions and one turnover by the end of the first half.

“The Navy and the 56th CS came into this game undefeated,” said Dan Acosta, 56th Force Support Squadron sports specialist supervisor and referee. “Defense was the strongest part for both teams.”

As the second half began, the 56th CS managed to get the ball down the field to the 20-yard line. With first and goal at the 20-yard line, a 56th CS pass was intercepted by a Navy defender, who ran the ball in to score a touchdown, making the score 12-0 with 11 minutes left in the game.

With three minutes to go and multiple interceptions, the Navy scored a third touchdown, bringing the score to 18-0.

The 56th CS team’s offense brought back the ball and managed to put some points on the board with four minutes to go.

The Navy’s offense proved too much for the 56th CS as they made another touchdown, bringing the score to 24-6.

“The game went really well,” Acosta said. “CS just fell too far behind to recover.”

The Navy moves on to the winners’ bracket as the 56th CS drops to the losers bracket but still has a chance to come back. The 56th CS team is determined to return to the finals, they said.

“The first two games went well but we started off sloppy in this one,” said Kristoffer Scott, 56th CS team captain. “We’ve been here before playing games with our backs to the wall. We will just have to execute plays better in the next game.”
