Street Beat – October 11, 2013

The 56th Security Forces Squadron handled the following incidents Sept. 30 through Oct. 4:

Tickets

Security forces issued citations for seven moving and one nonmoving violations.

Nonemergency responses

Sept. 30: Security forces administered a breathalyzer test to an on-duty Airman who was escorted to Bldg. 179. The individual blew a .170 blood alcohol concentration.

Sept. 30: Security forces responded to a report of loss of private property at Bldg. 1540.

Oct. 1: Security forces assisted an 80-year-old man who was lying on the ground near the west side of Bldg. 1150. The man sustained minor injuries from a fall near the handicap parking spots. Emergency responders assumed control.

Oct. 2: Security forces made contact with a civilian attempting to drive through the South Gate with a firearm attached at the waist. The driver refused to render his weapon to the armory while on base and was briefed on firearm procedures on the installation. The individual departed.

Oct. 2: Security forces responded to a wants and warrants hit on a civilian at the South Gate for failure to appear. The individual was attempting sponsorship onto the installation to perform contractor duties. Local law enforcement agencies were contacted but declined to respond.

Oct. 4: Security forces responded to a report of shoplifting at Bldg. 1540. Contact was made, and it was determined this was the second shoplifting offense for this individual at the Exchange. Glendale police responded and took control. The individual was barred from base for 10 years.

Alarm activations

Security forces responded to seven alarm activations on base.

Tip of the week

Prescription drug abuse is on the rise in the country and Luke Air Force Base. In many cases prescription pain relievers were obtained for nonmedical use by a friend or relative. Anger and denial are often the reaction to intervention. Be a good wingman, and assist the individual in seeking professional help. Properly dispose of unused prescriptions by returning them to a pharmacy or to local law enforcement.
