Chaplain thoughts

King-Solomon-Russian-icon
“I took a hard look at what’s smart and what’s stupid. I did see that it’s better to be smart than stupid, just as light is better than darkness (paraphrased).”

~King Solomon

There was once a merchant who wished to sell fish heads to a customer and told him that fish heads are great brain food. They make the eater smart. And since they have such marvelous value to the brain, they are extremely expensive. The customer then bought one for an exorbitant price and ate it on the spot. After a few moments of reflective silence, the customer said, “It just occurred to me, what sort of deal was this anyhow? At the market, one can buy a whole fish for far less than you charged for just the head.” The merchant replied, “See, it’s already making you smart.”

King Solomon also said, “Answer a fool according to his folly, or he will be wise in his own eyes.” A foolish answer can shine the light of truth on foolish ways. The goal is not to chastise the one who made a foolish choice, but rather to prevent them from causing further damage or harm to themselves or others. It causes the one who made a poor choice to pause and reflect, and hopefully learn from his mistake.

Blessings from Above …
