Five Luke Airmen achieve highest enlisted rank

The rank of chief master sergeant was established by congress in 1958 and the ceiling was set at 1 percent of the enlisted force. In December 1959, 1,700 men were the first to be promoted to this new grade. These Airmen were leaders who possessed the unique talents and displayed the personal characteristics required to manage Air Force people and programs.
The chief master sergeant selects list was published Tuesday. The following senior master sergeants were selected for promotion at Luke Air Force Base:
David Corbett, 56th Civil Engineer Squadron
R.D. Deskins, 56th Maintenance Group
Rocky Thomas, 56th Equipment Maintenance Squadron
Barrington Bartlett, 56th EMS
Donald Stroud, 56th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron
