Airmen Cookie Drive

Volunteers are needed to sort and package cookies donated for the Airmen cookie drive 7 to 10 a.m. Dec. 5 at Club Five Six. For more information or to sign up, email lukecookies@yahoo.com.

Base-wide exercise

The 56th Fighter Wing will conduct an active-shooter exercise Dec. 18 which will include military and local, county and state law enforcement, and fire departments. Those traveling on base should expect traffic disruptions, gate closures or delays, and interruptions of customer service operations. Expect to see simulated explosions, smoke, role players depicting individuals with injuries, and emergency responders to include fire, police, ambulances and medical evacuation helicopters.

Finance office hours today

The finance office will close at 10:30 a.m. today for a squadron function and resume regular business hours, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday. For more information, call 2nd Lt. William Liaw at 623-956-6035.

Kris Kringle Market, Santa visit

The Luke Air Force Base community is invited to attend the 56th Force Support Squadron Youth Center annual Kris Kringle Market and Visit With Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus 8:30 a.m. to noon Dec. 14. The event is free at the youth center, Bldg. 1143 and includes a continental breakfast, visits and pictures with Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus (bring a camera), crafts, games, face painting, balloon sculptures, gift giveaways and music. Holiday open house

Military members with identification from all branches are invited to Operation Holiday Open House noon to 4 p.m. Dec. 21 at the Navy Operations Support Center, Bldg. 300 on Luke Air Force Base. Food donations

Donations for nonperishable food items are being accepted 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Bldg. 617 by the 56th Training Squadron. The items will be donated to a local food bank. For more information, call 623-536-7063.

Holiday hours

All vendors in the Exchange and commissary complex will be closed Thursday in observance of Thanksgiving Day. Exchange concession hours vary for Nov. 29, 30 and 31. Check with individual vendors.

The Oasis is featuring the following events for Airmen.

  • Nov. 30: Decorate the Oasis at 5:30 p.m.
  • Dec. 7: BeArizona
  • Dec. 14: Men of Chapel at 7:30 a.m. at the Food Bank
  • Dec. 21: Watoto Choir at 6 p.m. at the chapel and laser tag
  • Dec. 24: Christmas dinner at 6:30 p.m. at the Oasis
  • Dec. 25: Christmas dinner at Neith’s
  • Dec. 31: New Year’s Eve party

Marketing for second career

“Marketing Yourself for a Second Career” is a free professional development lecture being offered to officers and senior enlisted who plan to leave the service in the near future, and civilians, spouses, and retirees. Connecting families

Daddy Read a Book connects deployed parents with children at home by providing them with a free video of the parent reading a favorite book. Reading sessions are conducted 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. the last Monday of the month. For more information, call Staff Sgt. Brandon Kenyon at 623-856-6211.

Home-buying seminar

The Luke Air Force Base Housing Management Office and Airman and Family Readiness Center are featuring a home-buying seminar for military members, retirees, Defense Department civilians and their families 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Dec. 10 at the A&FRC office in Bldg. 1113. National Fine Arts Exhibit & Competition

Youth, ages 6 to 18, submit artwork now through Nov. 30 for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s National Fine Arts Contest and Exhibit Dec. 16 through 20 at the Luke Air Force Base Youth Center. Artwork must have been completed in 2013 and will be judged in the following categories: monochromatic and multicolored drawings; pastels, watercolor, oil and acrylic paintings; mixed-media and collage, sculpture; and group projects.
