Active-shooter exercise front, center next week

You’re conducting business as usual, shopping at the commissary or waiting to talk with a TRICARE specialist in the Medical Clinic. Suddenly, gunshots ring out and you hear screaming. What do you do?

What will the base do? To answer this question, the 56th Fighter Wing will conduct an active-shooter exercise Wednesday to test military and civilian personnel so they’ll understand what to do if this real-world scenario ever happens.

The base’s coordinated emergency response and notification procedures will also be tested. The active-shooter response plan at Luke Air Force Base consists of three main phases: immediate actions (Lockdown), installation response (Lockdown Terminated, STAY PUT, key personnel respond) and installation recovery (All clear, with possible changes to FPCON).

For more information, call the unit antiterrorism representative or the 56th FW Antiterrorism office at 623-856-6331. For more information on the phases, see Page 18.
