Look in the sky! It’s a bird. It’s a plane. It’s the Wings of Blue!

The Wings of Blue skydiving demonstration team is scheduled to arrive in the Phoenix area Dec. 27 where they will be visiting various areas to do practice jumps, perform and give back to the community.

The primary mission of the Wings of Blue is to run the Air Force basic free-fall course AM490. Members of the team serve primarily as jump masters and instructors for the course. AM 490 is the only first-jump program in the world in which students can make their first freefall jump without assistance.

Additionally, the team makes roughly 19,000 jumps per year for AM490 and training.

While their primary mission is teaching the AM490, the Wings of Blue also trains for aerial demonstrations and parachuting competitions.

The demonstration team is comprised of Air Force Academy cadet jumpers and 98th Flying Training Squadron staff members who perform globally on a regular basis.

The team performs in events such as Air Force football games, various air shows throughout the nation, the Rose Bowl, NFL and MLB games.

One of the more high-profile events happening locally is the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl demonstration Dec. 28 at Arizona State University Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Ariz.

Other scheduled events:
3:15 p.m. Dec. 27, practice jumps at Litchfield Golf Course
9:30 a.m. Dec. 28, demonstration at Litchfield Golf Course
7:59 p.m. Dec. 28, demonstration at Arizona State University Sun Devil Stadium

Have you joined the Air Force yet?
