Spouse pharmacy training
The Air Force Aid Society and Airman and Family Readiness Center are making available six educational grants for the pharmacy technician program. Spouses of active-duty Air Force members stationed at Luke Air Force Base are eligible to apply. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED. Spouses with college degrees are not eligible for this entry level program. Resumes will be accepted at the A&FRC through today and interviews conducted Tuesday and Wednesday. Classes begin Feb. 15. For more information, call 623-856-6403.
Combat zone tax exclusion
Active-duty members who were part of the Eager Lion exercise in Jordan last summer may be entitled to combat zone tax exclusion if they received imminent danger pay while there. For more information, call the 56th Comptroller Squadron Financial Services Office.
The law pertaining to leave was recently changed to allow enlisted members with accumulated leave of more than 120 days to sell up to 30 days of leave back, other than at re-enlistment, separation, or extension of enlistment, once in a career. This leave sell-back counts toward the statutory 60-day maximum in a career. For more information or to initiate this process, call the 56th Force Support Squadron Military Personnel Section.
Luke tax center seeks volunteers
The Luke Air Force Base tax center opens its doors to file returns for the entire Luke community beginning Monday. To offer this service, the tax center relies solely on volunteers (active-duty, civilians and retirees) who become certified tax preparers through the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. Volunteers must be trained to be certified tax preparers and work at least four hours per week in the tax center from Jan. 27 through April 15, 2014. For more information, call Beverly Dennie at 623-856-6901 or email email@example.com.
Give parents a break
The 56th Force Support Squadron Child Development Center and the Youth Center are offering free childcare in a safe, age-appropriate learning environment 11 a.m. to
5 p.m. Feb. 8. The reservation deadline is Thursday. The service is for active-duty Air Force families who are experiencing stress due to a temporary duty assignment, deployment or unique hardships associated with military life to take a break. Lunch and a snack are included. For children from infant to age 5, call 623-856-6338. For children ages 6 to 12, call 623-856-7471.
Volunteers are needed 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Thursday, and the first and third Saturdays of the month. For more information, call 623-856-6415.
“Daddy Read a Book” connects deployed parents with children at home by providing a free video of the parent reading a favorite book. Reading sessions are conducted 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. the last Monday of the month. For more information, call Staff Sgt. Brandon Kenyon at 623-856-6211.
