The Naval Operation Support Center Guam military police and the 607th Air Control Squadron stepped onto the field Jan. 14 for an intramural football match at Luke Air Force Base. The NOSC Guam military defeated the 607th ACS 26-0.

The offenses lined up with two linemen, a center, a running back and two wide receivers for most of the game. The match began with the NOSC scoring the first touchdown after a long drive. Throughout the game the Navy team continued to dominate the gridiron, ending the first half of the game 13-0.

“The Navy played a great game with their fast and aggressive defense,” said Staff Sgt. Rakeem Redd, 607th ACS current operations assistant NCO in charge. “They are one of the better teams in intramurals this year, but we hope to see them again and be victorious.”

The rules for the intramural games are different than a traditional football game. In a flag football field range of 80 yards, each first down is 20 yards. There are only two 20-minute halves as well as an automatic mercy victory rule, which consists of having 20 or more points ahead with 10 minutes to go.

The football game ended with the 607th ACS unsuccessfully attempting to score before the mercy rule time marker. This victory kept the Navy team undefeated with a record of 2-0, giving them a good start for this intramural season.

“It was a slow start, but once we got the chains moving it ended in our favor,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Oscar Alvarez, NOSC Guam military police, who was an instrumental player to the NOSC victory.
