Pennysylvania

A former Army Air Force aerial gunner based out of Hethel, England, received a Prisoner of War Medal nearly seven decades after his internment in a Swiss prison during World War II. He is one of the 11 surviving Airmen who were interned at Camp Wauwilermoos.

Honduras

Reservists from the 315th Airlift Wing, Joint Base Charleston, S.C., recently delivered more than 124,000 pounds of humanitarian aid to Haiti, Panama and Honduras. The missions involved two C-17 Globemaster III aircraft from the 701st and 300th Airlift Squadrons, which delivered humanitarian aid, medical and school supplies, rice and water to the different countries.

Djibouti

Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, the U.S. military’s only enduring base in Africa, held a change-of-command ceremony Feb. 6. Capt. Peter Van Stee relinquished command of CLDJ to Capt. Michael Newman during a ceremony presided over by Rear Adm. John Scorby Jr., commander of Navy Region Europe, Africa, Southwest Asia.

Qatar

Airmen deployed to the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing, Al Udeid Air Base, and Soldiers deployed to Camp As Sayliyah volunteered to participate in a local school’s sports day. Established in 2011, the Qatar National Sports Day prompted a government mandate that all schools develop a sports day the week prior to the national holiday to create awareness about sports and the health benefits in an effort to meet the challenges of a rapidly increasing youthful population.
