Finance office hours

The finance office will close at 1 p.m. Feb. 21. Normal office hours will resume at 8:30 a.m. Feb. 24. For more information, call 623-856-6035.

African American Heritage luncheon

The African American Heritage luncheon is 11 a.m. Feb. 28 in Club Five Six. The guest speaker is Cloves Campbell Jr., Arizona Informant publisher and National Newspaper Publishers’ Association chair. A soul food buffet will be served. The cost is $10 per E-1 through E-4. The cost for all others is $13 per person. The deadline to sign up is Feb. 24. For more information, call Master Sgt. Technology expo

The 56th Communications Squadron is featuring the Luke Air Force Base Technology Expo 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 25 in Club Five Six. The expo is open to military, civilian and contractor personnel and is free. To preregister, go to www.federalevents.com.

Military Saves Week

Military Saves Week is Feb. 23 through March 1 and culminates with a Finance Expo March 1 at the Wigwam in Litchfield Park. There will be prizes and information on retirement planning, budgeting, debt reduction, credit scores, couponing and more. Register at http://fightercountry.org/seat.

Volunteer opportunities

Special Olympics volunteer opportunities are 8 a.m. to
2 p.m. Feb. 28 at the following high schools: Dysart, Willow Canyon, Shadow Ridge, Valley Vista and Trevor Browne, and the American Sports Center in Avondale. To sign up, email michael.emerson.5@us.af.mil.

Improve finances, credit score

Finance 101 is 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday and Credit Score Enhancement is 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday. Both classes are at the Airman and Family Readiness Center. For more information, call 623-856-6550.

Renaissance Festival tour

Outdoor Recreation is offering a Renaissance Festival day tour 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 1. The cost is $35 per person and covers admission and round-trip transportation. The tour is limited to 13 participants who must sign up by Feb. 24. For more information, call 623-856-6267.

Handgun training

Training on the 9mm handgun is 5 to 10 p.m. March 6 at Shooter’s World. The cost is $10 per single Airmen and $120 for others. The registration cost is $10 and deadline to sign up is March 3.

Street construction

Road construction will begin next week and will result in one to two lane closures on streets on base. The dates of construction are today to Monday on Super Saber Street, March 17 to 28 on Starfighter Street and 143rd Avenue, and Feb. 24 to March 7 on Fighter Country Avenue. LOSC scholarships

The Luke Officers Spouses Club is offering to active-duty, reservists or retired military dependents seeking financial aid for fall 2014.Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded for military spouses and five $1,000 scholarships for graduating seniors of military dependents. AETC spouses scholarships

YES program

The Air Force Aid Society Youth Employment Skills program is an on-base youth volunteer program offered at Luke Air Force Base for high school-aged dependents of active-duty/Title 10 Air Force members to learn work skills while having a positive impact on their base community. Certified and enrolled high school students can “bank” volunteer dollar credits toward their post-secondary education/training at $4 per hour volunteered in an on-base position up to $1,000 maximum over four years of high school combined. Airman’s Attic

The Airman’s Attic hours of operation are 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Thursday, and the first and third Saturdays of the month. Volunteers are needed. For more information, call 623-856-6415.

Professional development opportunity

Participants of the Luke Air Force Base Library Reading Rewards program can receive a free copy of USA Today 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday or 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the library. Select two articles with unfamiliar words and meet in a group or one-on-one with an instructor at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the library. Do it for four weeks in a row and participants are rewarded with a $25 Harkins Theatres Gift Card. For more information, call Master Sgt. Sheris Poisson at 623-856-7737.
