Street Beat

The 56th Security Forces Squadron handled the following incidents Feb. 24 through March 2:

Tickets

Security forces issued citations for 13 moving and one nonmoving violations.

Traffic-related incidents

Feb. 25: Security forces provided traffic control for a minor vehicle accident in the intersection of Litchfield Road and Lightning Street. Glendale police took control. There were no injuries.

Nonemergency responses

Feb. 24: An active-duty member was assaulted by an individual on Feb. 22 at 9425 West Coyotes Boulevard. The individual hit the service member with a bottle and attempted to punch the service member before being pulled off by the establishment staff and Glendale police. The member declined to press charges and security forces investigations took control of the investigation.

Feb. 24: Security forces responded to a report of a warrant’s hit for failure to appear for a traffic offense at South Gate. Security forces contacted Peoria police who declined to extradite. The individual was denied entry until the warrant was cleared.

Feb. 25: Security forces responded to a report of an unattended child at the Bldg. 1145 playground. Glendale police interviewed a family member and stated the incident did not meet the criteria of child neglect. Security forces and investigations conducted a welfare check of the residence and found it uninhabitable for children. Alert photo and Glendale police were requested to respond. Child Protective Services was contacted.

Feb. 27: Security forces responded to a report of warrant’s hit for contempt of court at South Gate. Avondale police responded.

Feb. 27: Security forces responded to a report of shoplifting at the base exchange. Security forces reviewed the security video tape and verified two subjects departed without paying. Property was concealed under the clothing of both subjects and was discovered during a search. One individual was issued a Revocation of Exchange Privileges Letter and the other was barred from the base for two years. Glendale police took control.

Feb. 28: Security forces responded to a noise complaint in base housing. Security forces briefed the individual on base quiet hours.

March 1: Security forces responded to a report of damage to government property on the south-east corner of the commissary parking lot. Security forces verified the damaged/downed stop sign and contacted the 56th Civil Engineer Squadron for repair.

March 2: Security forces responded to a report of a warrant’s hit for minor consumption and writing bad checks at Lightning Gate from Tempe police. Contact was made with Tempe police, but they declined to extradite due to the individual being 25 miles outside of jurisdiction.

Alarm activations

Security forces responded to nine alarm activations on base.

Tip of the week

General guidelines for safe motorcycle riding

  • Remember that motorists often have trouble seeing motorcycles and reacting in time.
  • Ensure the headlight works and is on day and night.
  • Use reflective strips or decals on clothing and on the motorcycle.
  • Be aware of the blind spots cars and trucks have.
  • Flash the brake light when slowing and before stopping.
  • Use the horn to alert motorists of your presence.
