Street Beat

The 56th Security Forces Squadron handled the following incidents March 3 through 15:

Tickets

Security forces issued citations for 20 moving and five nonmoving violations.

Traffic-related incidents

March 3: Security forces responded to a report of a minor two-vehicle accident in the Bldg. 1124 parking lot. There were no injuries.

March 11: Security forces responded to a report of a minor vehicle vs. a fixed object accident at the intersection of 139th Avenue and Shooting Star Street. There were no injuries.

March 11: Security forces responded to a report of a minor two-vehicle accident in the parking lot of Bldg. 1124. There were no injuries.

March14: Security forces responded to a report of a minor vehicle vs. a fixed object accident at Bldg. 897. There were no injuries.

Nonemergency responses

March 3: Security forces responded to a warrant’s hit from Bullhead City at South Gate for failure to appear to pay a fine. A 56th SFS Military Working Dog team was on scene to accomplish vehicle sweeps and provided over-watch of the suspect. Security forces contacted Glendale police and confirmed they would not extradite for the warrant. The individual was denied base entry until the warrant was cleared.

March 3: A civil arrest was made on an active-duty member for failure to drive in a single lane and driving under the influence at the intersection of McDowell Road and Bullard Avenue.

March 4: Security forces received a report of unauthorized photography south of Bldg. 422. Security forces verified the individual had four photos on a cellular phone of an aircraft in the restricted area. Security forces had the photographs deleted.

March 4: Security forces responded to a warrant’s hit from Yuma County police for a suspended license and a felony warrant. Security forces called Glendale police to extradite. They arrested the individual who was transported to Glendale jail.

March 5: Security forces initiated a “Be on the lookout/pick-up restriction order” for an active-duty member. Security forces performed a welfare check of the individual’s residence but were unable to make contact. The first sergeant contacted security forces and relayed the member would be considered absent without leave.

March 5: Security forces responded to a warrant’s hit at South Gate for failure to appear from the Arizona Department of Public Safety. DPS and Glendale police were contacted but declined to extradite. The individual was denied access to the base and released.

March 4: Security forces responded to a warrant’s hit at South Gate for driving with a suspended license and a felony from Yuma police who asked Glendale police to extradite. Glendale police arrested the individual who was transported to the Glendale jail.

March 7: Security forces responded to a report of shoplifting in Bldg. 1540. Security forces examined the AAFES security video tape and verified the individual took a 50-percent off tag from one product and placed it on a coffee maker box, purchased the coffee maker for $64.50, and departed without rendering full payment. The individual was issued a suspension of base exchange, commissary and shoppette privileges of nonmilitary adults letter. Glendale police took control.

March 7: Security forces responded to a report of shoplifting in Bldg. 1540. Security forces examined the AAFES security video tape and verified the individual departed without rendering full payment. The individual was issued a suspension of base exchange, commissary and shoppette privileges of nonmilitary adults letter. Glendale police took control.

March 7: Security forces responded to a noise complaint in Bldg. 640. Security forces made contact with the individuals and briefed them on base quiet hours.

March 9: Security forces responded to a report of an AWOL individual who attempted base entry at South Gate. The individual was searched and transported to Bldg. 179 where the 56th Fighter Wing Legal Office was contacted. JAG stated security forces was clear to proceed with an Article 86. The individual was released to the unit first sergeant.

March 9: Security forces responded to a report of shoplifting in Bldg. 1540. Security forces examined the AAFES security video tape and verified the individual departed without rendering full payment. Glendale police took control.

March 10: Security forces responded to a warrant’s hit at Lightning Gate on an active-duty member for DUI in 2011 from Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department. Security forces located and detained the member until Glendale police arrived, arrested and transported the individual for booking.

March 12: Security forces responded to a warrant’s hit at South Gate on an active-duty member for contempt of court from Yavapai County. Yavapai County Sheriff’s office declined to extradite. The individual was denied access to the installation.

March 12: Security forces responded to a report of theft of government property outside of Bldg. 460.

March 14: A civil arrest was made on an active-duty member for DUI at 82nd Avenue and Cactus Road by the Peoria police.

Alarm activations

Security forces responded to 12 alarm activations on base.

Tip of the week

When yielding to emergency vehicles, remember:

  • When an emergency vehicle is approaching, use the right turn signal, slow down, pull to the side of the road as quickly as possible and stop.
  • When the emergency vehicle has passed, use the left turn signal and pull back into traffic when clear. Avoid rushing back into traffic.
  • When an emergency vehicle approaches on a curve or hill, do not stop in the curve or on the hill. At a normal speed, go beyond the area to a flat or straight stretch of the road.
