Colorado

Even when the Air Force was established as an independent service in 1947, many were skeptical of the value of an Air Force academy. To the officers and civilians charged with establishing guidelines for an air academy, it was clearly needed. Sixty years ago on April 1, 1954, President Dwight Eisenhower signed legislation establishing the academy.

Alabama

An Airman has put her sign language skill to use by providing a voice for people using only her hands since the age of 7. She was taught American Sign Language by her mother as a means to communicate with her deaf foster brother.

Qatar

Chief Master Sgt. Rory Wicks, 379th Air Expeditionary Wing command chief, celebrated 30 years in the Air Force March 28. His official retirement ceremony will be held at Luke Air Force Base this month.

Angola

African Partnership Flight Angola 2014, held in March, included Airmen from the Angolan, U.S. and Zambian air forces. About 200 participants discussed disaster relief operations, mission planning and equipment preparation for airlift. The intention of APF is to strengthen regional partnerships by improving proficiency and readiness through a collaborative learning environment.
