‘Days of Remembrance’ provides moving experience

Holocaust artist Robert Sutz’ artwork varies from paintings of the Holocaust to life masks of Holocaust survivors. They were displayed at the Days of Remembrance Luncheon May 2 in Club Five Six. The theme for this year’s Holocaust remembrance luncheon was “Confronting the Holocaust: American Responses.”

Col. Jeremy Sloane, 56th Fighter Wing vice commander, views a painting May 2 by artist Robert Sutz, whose artwork includes scenes from the Holocaust. Since 2000, Sutz has focused his work on Holocaust survivors and scenes. The artwork was on display during Days of Remembrance in Club Five Six.

Oskar Knoblauch, Holocaust survivor and author of a book entitled “A Boy’s Story, A Man’s Memory: Surviving the Holocaust 1933-1945,” spoke about his experiences at the luncheon.

Several photos were displayed at the luncheon. The caption describes the denazification program in Germany, which mandated the elimination of Nazi names from public squares, city streets and other venues.
