Secretary of the Air Force Deborah Lee James visited Pease Air National Guard Base, N.H., May 2 to meet with Airmen and senior leaders of the New Hampshire Air National Guard, the 64th Air Refueling Squadron and state representatives.
During her trip James spoke with Airmen about her key priorities as SecAF, which included discussing the future of the Air Force and specifically the concept of total force integration.
TFI integrates the active duty and reserve components’ operations, support and maintenance functions, leveraging the capabilities of both components for more effective and efficient operations.
The 157th Air Refueling Wing represents the Air National Guard at Pease, while the 64th ARF represents the active-duty Air Force. The 64th ARF has been integrated within Pease Air National Guard Base since 2009.
“I’m a big believer in TFI, and Pease has been a model for total force integration,” said James during an all-call. “TFI has given us a high aircraft utilization rate for contingency operations overseas, as well as for critical response to domestic emergencies like floods, ice storms and Hurricane Katrina.”
The Air Force revamped the Knowledge Management career-field, aiming to make its Airmen into some of the service’s top innovators working in newly established KM centers Air-Force-wide.
The KM career-field split, announced earlier this year, moved 80 percent of its Airmen to the new Administration Air Force Specialty Code 3A1X1. Approximately 20 percent of Airmen currently assigned to the Knowledge Management AFSC 3D0X1 will remain; becoming a more specific, technically-honed specialty.
According to Chief Master Sergeant Robert Jackson, Knowledge Management career field manager, KM will undergo a significant technical training ramp-up to meet this challenge. They employ a process improvement mindset, analyze mission requirements and recommend solutions. They are the consultants, trainers and facilitators to connect people to the information they need.
“The idea is to help Airmen avoid searching through mountains of digital data to find what they’re looking for,” said Jackson. “The real goal is capturing and reusing the wisdom, experience and lessons we learn over time.”
The Air Force has implemented the 2014 enlisted date of separation rollback program phase II, Air Force Personnel Center officials said May 1.
The program accelerates the date of separation for Airmen who declined to acquire retainability for an assignment, training, retraining or professional military education, and who have fewer than 18 years or 20 years or more of total active federal military service.
Airmen identified for separation under this second phase of the fiscal 2014 DOS rollback program must do so by Sept. 29. Those eligible to retire must apply for retirement by May 29 and must be retired by Sept. 1.
Airmen can be considered for the DOS rollback only if they meet all of the following eligibility criteria:
Have fewer than 15 years of total active federal military service as of Sept. 29, or at least 15 but fewer than 18 years of TAFMS as of Aug. 31; or 20 years or more TAFMS on or before Aug. 31.
Have an Aug. 31, 2015, or earlier DOS for those eligible to retire, or a Sept. 29, 2015, or earlier DOS for Airmen ineligible for retirement.
Air Force Mortuary Affairs Operations became a Field Operating Agency, May 1, at the Charles C. Carson Center for Mortuary Affairs, Dover Air Force Base, Del., aligning it directly under Headquarters Air Force leadership.
The organization, created as a named activity of the Directorate of Services, Manpower and Personnel, Headquarters United States Air Force, was originally activated Jan. 6, 2009.
The change was approved Feb. 14, 2014, by Secretary of the Air Force Deborah Lee James, under the 2014 Consolidated Appropriations Act, which authorized the stand-up of the FOA.
“Aligning AFMAO directly under Headquarters Air Force reinforces the operational value of our mission in supporting all our nation’s fallen including active-duty Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines as well as guardsmen, reservists and civilians,” said Col. John Devillier, AFMAO commander.
