Alaska

Dirt Boyz from the 354th Civil Engineer Squadron clean up Eielson Air Force Base throughout the year to keep the base operational. The Dirt Boyz work regardless of season, temperature or weather conditions.

France

The people of Avord dedicated a memorial May 8 honoring the crew of a U.S. B-17 Flying Fortress shot down during World War II. The B-17, nicknamed the Georgia Rebel II, crashed at about noon April 28, 1944, on a bombing mission of a Nazi German-occupied airfield, Avord Air Base, located in France.

Japan

Operators with the 459th Airlift Squadron flew UH-1N Hueys night and day May 7, 8 and 9 to practice providing priority airlift capabilities. The flights included practice with night vision goggles to maintain qualification, search and rescue operations, and navigation and formation training. The 459th AS assists Yokota Air Base throughout the Pacific region.

Afghanistan

Airmen from the 83rd Expeditionary Rescue Squadron, Bagram Airfield, participated in a training scenario where they treated casualties who were injured during a simulated roadside bomb blast. During the training, rescue crews flew on HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopters to the scene to provide security, treat patients and prepare them for transport.
