Florida

The 33rd Fighter Wing at Eglin Air Force Base etched another mark May 28 on the F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter program by logging its 5,000th combined sortie. More than 15,000 sorties have been flown across all variants of the fifth generation multirole stealth fighter.

Norway

Airmen from the 426th Air Base Squadron recently participated in training alongside rescue crews from the Royal Norwegian air force’s 330th Rescue Squadron. Four Airmen volunteered to serve as stranded seafarers in the frigid North Sea, so the Norwegian aircrew could maintain qualifications and other local naval units could exercise rescue and survival operations.

Israel

During a simulated life-or-death scenario, U.S. and Israeli medical teams completed a medical evacuation exercise May 20. The exercise simulated treating six patients and transporting them to an Israeli hospital and then airlifting them for further care if needed. The purpose of the exercise was to test the U.S. medical team’s ability to keep track of patients from the point of injury to the air evacuation.

Romania

More than 80 Airmen and Soldiers stationed in Germany came together May 9 through 24 to take part in Carpathian Spring 2014 in Bucharest. Three hundred Romanian paratroopers were trained in the two-week period. Members from both militaries shared their perspectives and expertise, improving mission planning and tactics.
