John Wooden

“It’s what you learn after you know it all that counts.”

~ John Wooden

John Wooden lived a life many only dream about. A three-time All-American basketball player at Purdue, he led them to the 1932 Helms National Championship (precursor to NCAA). He played professional basketball and spent three years as a Navy officer 1942 to 1944. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame as a player in 1961. But his greatest legacy is as head basketball coach for UCLA 1948 through 1975. He led the Bruins to an incredible ten NCAA championships in 12 years. This earned him a second 1973 induction into the basketball hall of fame as a coach. In 2003 Wooden received the Presidential Medal of Freedom. He’s definitely someone who could have felt many times that he had arrived and “knew it all.” Instead he took a different approach; “It’s what you learn after you know it all that really counts”. An attitude of constant learning propels you to further accomplishment. Take those opportunities for mental resiliency as often as you can!
