Base-wide exercise

The 56th Fighter Wing will conduct an active-shooter exercise Aug. 15. The exercise will include military and local, county and state law enforcement, and fire departments. On and off-base residents should expect traffic disruptions, gate closures or delays, and interruptions of customer service operations. Expect to see simulated explosions, smoke, role players depicting individuals with injuries, and emergency responders to include fire, police, ambulances and medical evacuation helicopters.

Lightning Leadership brief

The Lightning Leadership Committee is featuring the “Situational Leadership Discussion” at the following times and dates at the Navy Operations Support Center, Bldg. 300, Room 412:

  • Senior NCO at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tuesday
  • NCO at 9 a.m. Wednesday and 1 p.m. Thursday
  • Airmen at 1 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. Thursday

SNCO professional enhancement course

The 56th Fighter Wing Senior NCO Professional Enhancement Course is 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Aug. 19 through 22 in Bldg. 461, Room 120. The four-day course inducts Luke’s newly selected master sergeants into the senior NCO corps and provides the tools and expectations of them. For more information, call Master Sgt. Ida Bushey at 623-856-2985. There will be a formal recognition ceremony honoring the inductees at 6 p.m. Aug. 22 at Club Five Six. Comprehensive Airman Fitness training

Comprehensive Airman Fitness Training is Aug. 19 through 21. It is a three-day course for Airmen or Defense Department employees who endorse the resiliency program. Resilience training assistants provide awareness education and skill development techniques for Airmen and their families while enhancing individual resilience across the four domains of CAF: mental, physical, social and spiritual. Autism support group

A monthly support group for parents of children with autism is 7 to 9 p.m. the first Thursday of the month at the 56th Force Support Squadron Airman and Family Readiness Center. For more information, call 830-237-6726.

National anthem singers

For those interested in auditioning to sing the national anthem at wing events, call 56th Fighter Wing Protocol at 623-856-5604.

Air Force Reserve

Library subscription refunds

Offices that receive subscriptions or items through the Luke Air Force Base Library and request a cancellation must return any refund checks received to the library. Offices are not allowed to cash the checks. For more information, call Pam Lum at 623-856-3893.

Sesame Street USO

Sesame Street USO Tour is coming to Luke Air Force Base at 6 p.m. Aug. 18 and 19 at the 56th Force Support Squadron Youth Center gym. Doors open 30 minutes early. For more information, call 623-856-7152.

Road closures

Repaving and water line installation will close Bong Lane from Marauder Street north to Gillespie Drive, Gillespie Drive from Litchfield Road south to Harris Lane and 139th Drive along Litchfield Road through Aug. 30. For more information, call 1st Lt. Joseph Matejcik at 623-856-7051.

Toastmasters Club

Toastmasters International exists to teach people to shed their fear of public speaking and learn to feel comfortable in front of an audience.
