Base-wide exercise

The 56th Fighter Wing will conduct an active-shooter exercise Aug. 15. The exercise will include military and local, county and state law enforcement, and fire departments. On and off-base residents should expect traffic disruptions, gate closures or delays, and interruptions of customer service operations. Expect to see simulated explosions, smoke, role players depicting individuals with injuries, and emergency responders to include fire, police, ambulances and medical evacuation helicopters.

SEE4Vets golf tournament

A charity golf tournament supporting education and employment for vets is 8 a.m. Sept. 27 at Wigwam Resort and Golf Course. The proceeds go to SEE4Vets, a nonprofit organization benefiting student vets and their families. Donations will be accepted. For more information, go to www.SEE4Vets.org.

Build-a-boat challenge

A build-a-boat challenge is from 2:30 to 5 p.m. Aug. 25 at Silver Wings Pool and Park. The boat must hold two people and race across the pool. The cost is $50 per team. There are awards for the Speed Racer (first to finish), Titanic (first to sink) and the Spirit for best looking, team name and chant. AFSA meeting

Workforce Investment Act

Transitioning or recently transitioned military members can get financial assistance for obtaining some professional licenses or certifications for civilian jobs through the Workforce Investment Act and a partnership with Western Maricopa Education Center. Terry Grossman, 56th Family Support Squadron Airman and Family Readiness Center, has also assisted fighter pilots on base to get their civilian commercial licenses paid for through the WIA Program. SNCO professional enhancement course

The 56th Fighter Wing Senior NCO Professional Enhancement Course is 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Aug. 19 through 22 in Bldg. 461, Room 120. The four-day course inducts Luke’s newly selected master sergeants into the senior NCO corps and provides the tools and expectations of them. For more information, call Master Sgt. Comprehensive Airman Fitness training

Comprehensive Airman Fitness Training is Aug. 19 through 21. It is a three-day course for Airmen or Defense Department employees who endorse the resiliency program. Resilience training assistants provide awareness education and skill development techniques for Airmen and their families while enhancing individual resilience across the four domains of CAF: mental, physical, social and spiritual. National anthem singers

Library subscription refunds

Offices that receive subscriptions or items through the Luke Air Force Base Library and request a cancellation must return any refund checks received to the library. Offices are not allowed to cash the checks. For more information, call Pam Lum at 623-856-3893.

Sesame Street USO

Sesame Street USO Tour is coming to Luke Air Force Base at 6 p.m. Aug. 18 and 19 at the 56th Force Support Squadron Youth Center gym. Doors open 30 minutes early. For more information, call 623-856-7152.

Toastmasters Club

Toastmasters International exists to teach people to shed their fear of public speaking and learn to feel comfortable in front of an audience.
