0630 Arrive at work and open up shop. It’s usually quiet in the mornings, so we have time to gather our thoughts.

0700 Open the window to receive the military’s best customers…Team March.

0830 Time to teach individual trainees on how to prep outgoing postal service mail and distribute intra- base mail.

1100 USPS mail truck arrives; on time as usual.

1115 We begin prepping ourselves to receive the incoming parcels. Proper safety gear must be worn prior to handling any incoming packages.

1130 X-ray screening begins for all incoming items.

1131 HALT THE X-RAY MACHINE! I think we have a questionable package.

1132 For security reasons, we must rescreen the package to ensure it is safe.

1135 No luck. Still can’t tell what it is…immediately notify Security Forces.

1136 In accordance with office protocol, announce the building evacuation call…THIS IS NOT A DRILL!

1140 Security Forces arrive on-scene to conduct a detailed screening of the package.

1200 Security Forces determines the contents of the box are harmless. The box appeared to contain a weapon. It turned out to be an L shaped flashlight, used with chemical warfare gear. Announce the all clear call…ALL CLEAR, ALL CLEAR, ALL CLEAR!

1230 Now that we have been cleared, we can continue to process and distribute mail.

1300 Time for a quick lunch break before preparing the accountable mail.

1330 I need some fresh air so I deliver the accountable mail to the Post Office and pick up more incoming mail.

1345 Continue to service customers with a smile despite the fact that we were scared out of our wits just two hours ago.

1500 Time to close the mailroom window and prepare to call it a day.
