What is the best way to support military children?

Hobbies: Hunting, fishing, hiking, barbequing

“I believe the best way to support military children is to keep them involved. Better yet, have your children search out and invite others whose parents are deployed to join your family events. Even if it’s dinner at a pizza place, help with homework, bowling, or just a quiet night of popcorn and movies, your children gain a friend and learn important social skills. Not to mention, you’re supporting our bigger military family.”

Senior Master Sgt. Pamela Mowrey

Job: Fabrication Flight Chief
Unit: 452 MXS
Hometown: St. Johnsville, N.Y.
Hobbies: Sewing (seamstress), crafting, spending time with family

“Reassure your kids that you are there for them at all times, even if you are only a phone call away. Before deployments, make sure you discuss a game plan for home and encourage them to get involved in local support groups in your absence.  It may help them understand that this is temporary and you will return. It’s difficult for our kids to go through important changes with one or both of their parents deployed.”

Kitten Jameson

Job: Operations Secretary
Unit: 362 RCS
Hometown: Amsterdam, Holland
Hobbies: Scrapbooking, L.A. Lakers, traveling and reading

“Support military children by ensuring they have a healthy knowledge of the world around them. Having to move every three to four years and having to change friends and schools is a big part of being a military dependent. These kids need to have a good foundation so they can help and enjoy other military children and support each other through different activities.”
