The 163d Civil Engineering Squadron teamed up with Navy Seabee reservists to work with Tony Alves, a local architect, on a low water and low maintenance base beautification landscaping project in front of building 2271. The two units partnered together for the base Xeriscaping project as a part of their drill status May 3- 6. The Navy reservists drill with the 163d CE squadron for the opportunity to train on equipment they do not normally have a chance to utilize. As the Seabees train, the 163d Reconnaissance Wing receives labor in exchange. The Xeriscaping project they are teamed up to work on includes a drip system which will reduce the need for supplemental water from irrigation and will require less maintenance. CAL FIRE rehabilitation work crews are also being utilized to help with the project.
