July/August Airman magazine now available on line

FORT GEORGE G. MEADE, Md. (AFNS) — The July/August issue of Airman magazine is now available to download and viewable through a web browser.

Celebrate Summer by Fishing For Free Sept. 7

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife is offering anglers a free day of fishing on Saturday, Sept. 7, the weekend following Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 2. All fishing regulations remain in effect. For more information on free fishing days, go to www.dfg.ca.gov and enter the search term “fish for free” in the search box. Check out the CDFW fishing rules and regulations at www.dfg.ca.gov/regulations

March Field Museum Searching for Hidden Treasures

The March Field Air Museum staff is asking family members of war veterans to search their attics, garages and other storage areas for wartime memorabilia. The museum’s Find Our Hidden Treasures campaign has begun for the month of July and museum staff would like for you to consider donating your items for display purposes. MARCH COMMISSARY CLOSED MONDAYS

The March ARB Commissary is now closed Mondays due to furloughs caused by sequestration. This schedule will be in effect until Sept. 30. Operating hours for the remaining days have not changed.

MARCH TAX CENTER EXTENDS HOURS

The March ARB Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Center will remain open for amending income tax returns and filing prior year returns. Appointments will be available on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with time slots from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information or to schedule an appointment, please Email, marchvita@yahoo.com or call 951-655-3659.

REGISTRATION OPEN FOR YELLOW RIBBON EVENTS

The events will provide programs, resources, referrals and services to minimize stress on families during all phases of deployment. Registration opening soon for the following upcoming events:

RUNNING TRACK SUMMER HOURS

The base running track is available for use between the hours of 5 a.m. and 8 p.m. throughout the summer months. Hours of operations were determined due to safety concerns. The track has not been equipped with proper lighting yet, which can cause hazard conditions for runners before or after daylight. Updated information will be provided after the completion of the track.

WINGMAN DAY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

The 452nd Force Support Squadron is looking for volunteers to assist with Wingman Day, Sept. 7. They need referees, first aid support and event monitors. Sign up by calling 655-3507.

TRANSITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM SLOTS AVAILABLE

Los Angeles Air Force Base will conduct TAP classes for those interested military and family. Dates are

Sept. 9 to 13 Oct. 7 to 11

Nov. 4 to 8 Dec. 9 to 13

Reservists will not be reimbursed for travel or per diem. To make reservations, call 310-653-5428.

SAFETY ADVISORY

Drivers and pedestrians traveling near the Air Traffic Control Tower, Bldg. 1220, should proceed with caution due to the construction of the new tower. In addition, the gate entering the Flightline at Base Ops (F18) is now closed. All personnel needing access will still sign in at Base Ops, then enter the Flightline through the gate at Security Forces (Bldg. 470).

Information survey targets Reservists and Guardsmen

The Secretary of the Air Force Public Affairs office has recruited a private research firm to begin conducting surveys regarding where airmen get information. This survey is focusing on Reservists and Guardsmen. If members of your unit ask about being contacted, please let them know this survey is officially sanctioned.
