What is your opinion on the DOD announcing its plan to extend benefits to same-sex spouses of uniformed service members and will any issues arise from this decision?

“I think this is ok, since the military has chosen to allow same-sex marriages; all should be treated equally and afforded the same benefits. New policies or changes take time to get used to, but I believe, in time, this will make for a stronger force. The only issues I see is, in different states there are different laws for same-sex marriages, so members may run into issues regarding this depending on where they are located.”

“I agree with the extension of benefits to same-sex couples. If our families are taken care of, the member can focus on their job and perform effectively. If the military takes care of the people, the people will take care of the mission. I don’t see any issues that should arise. If the benefits are offered in traditional cases, it should be allowed in these cases.”

“The DOD announcement to extend benefits to same-sex couples is a necessary policy changed. This decision levels the playing field between opposite-sex and same-sex couples. I don’t see any issues or it having a negative affect on the military. It ensures fair treatment across the board.”
