March Field Museum Searching for Hidden Treasures

The March Field Air Museum staff is asking family members of war veterans to search their attics, garages and other storage areas for wartime memorabilia. The museum’s Find Our Hidden Treasures campaign is in full swing. Please consider donating your items for display purposes. For more information call the March Field Air Museum at (951) 902-5204.

MARCH COMMISSARY UPDATE

Commissary resumed a seven-day operation Aug. 18. The hours of operation are: Sunday and Monday 10-6:30; Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 9-6:30; Thursday 9-8; Saturday 8-6:30. Visit www.commissaries.com for more information.

SAFETY ADVISORY

Drivers and pedestrians traveling near the Air Traffic Control Tower, Bldg. 1220, should proceed with caution due to the construction of the new tower. The gate entering the Flightline at Base Ops (F18) is now closed. All personnel needing access will still sign in at Base Ops, then enter the Flightline through the gate at Security Forces (Bldg. 470).

Dept. of Veterans Affairs to Offer Benefits Briefings

Representatives from the Department of Veterans Affairs will be at March, Sept. 8, to brief on available benefits for military members and their families. Those interested in attending the briefing can sign up by calling the Airman and Family Readiness Center at 951-655-5350.

Yellow Ribbon Event

Yellow Ribbon events provide programs, resources, referrals and services to minimize stress on families during all phases of deployment. Registration is open for the following event:

TAP Slots Available
Los Angeles Air Force Base will conduct Transition Assistance Program classes for those interested military members and their families. Dates are:

Aug. 12 to 16 Sept. 9 to 13
Oct. 7 to 11 Nov. 4 to 8 Dec. 9 to 13
Note: Members must have pre-separation counseling prior to attending these classes. Reservists will not be reimbursed for travel or per diem. To make reservations, call 310-653-5428.

First Sergeant’s Council Remembrance Run

The First Sergeant’s Council will sponsor the 3rd Annual Remembrance Run on Sept. 7 beginning at 6:30 a.m. Individuals and teams are encouraged to participate by registering for the event at www.americaskidsrun.org. There is a $10 donation fee and 100 percent of your donation will go directly to the Airman’s Relief Fund. For more information contact Senior Master Sgt. Randy Hopp at 858-735-8019.

AUDITIONS TO BE HELD FOR EMCEE AND NATIONAL ANTHEM SINGER

Members interested in being the Master of Ceremonies or singing the national anthem for the military ball may audition Sept. 7, 9 a.m at Sally’s Alley, behind the Hap Arnold Club. Emergency Management Office Seeking Volunteers

Volunteers are needed to join the Emergency Services Support Team. You will receive on-the-job training from members of the Emergency Management Office staff. To sign up or for more information contact Bob Kaschak at 951-655-3024.

SINGLE AIRMAN’S PROGRAM SCHEDULE

The following free trips, sponsored by the Airmen & Family Readiness Center, are open to all base personnel, although priority will be given to single Airmen:

  • Sept. 14, zip lining and fly boarding (Big Bear Lake)
  • Sept 21, hot air ballooning (Temecula)
  • Sept 28 sea trek adventures (Catalina Island)
  • Oct. 12, NASCAR three lap “ride along” (California Motor Speedway)

YOUTH EDUCATION MOTIVATION PROGRAM

PA is looking for those individuals who would like to volunteer to visit a local middle school for a couple of morning hours to discuss the importance of education with students, motivate them and answer their questions. EDUCATION NEWS AND UPDATES

New Tuition Assistance Process: Beginning Oct. 1, TA will be paid to the school up front instead of reimbursed to the student. For more information, visit http://www.afrc.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123359554.
FY14 funding for TA has not been approved yet. So any class starting Oct. 1 or later will not be approved until funding is made available.

Community College of the Air Force: The next Team March CCAF graduation is scheduled for the combined UTA in Dec.

Education Fair: The March Education office will have an Education Fair Sep. 7, across from the picnic. There will be plenty of schools present to provide information for their degree program.

DANTES/CLEP: March ARB will no longer be able to provide testing for DANTES or CLEP. The nearest military facility that offers testing is Los Angeles AFB.
