Sexual assault stand down

Throughout the month of August, March units participated in SECDEF-directed, sexual assault stand-down training. From feedback received, the training was a great success with members reporting that the sessions were informative and helped them understand how these issues can negatively affect the unit as a whole.

These crimes directly impact our mission readiness as we must have implicit trust in one another. In combat there can be no hesitation in that trust. The perpetrators of these crimes break down that trust and we have no tolerance for that in our service.

Col. Samuel Mahaney, 452nd Air Mobility Wing commander, has created a climate within this wing to ensure good order and discipline for every member entrusted to him. He believes that if you take care of your people, they will take care of the mission.

The “Every Airman Counts” initiative does just that. Launched on July 16, this “blog-type” forum was created to promote Airman-to-Airman dialog related to sexual assault while providing suggestions and advice to senior leaders on how best to tackle this issue. The goal is for Airmen to have a safe place to discuss this important topic and be treated with dignity and respect.

We are all part of the solution to this issue and we encourage maximum discussion on the topic as part of the overall assessment process to identify Airmen’s perspectives, as well as, find innovative strategies to attack the crime of sexual assault.

Although you are required to create a user-type name to participate in the blog, it does not have to identify who you are. When you write a comment, it will be emailed to a moderator in the HQ SAPR Office. If you prefer the comment not be “posted” you need to identify that in the comment itself.

This blog will continue as long as conversations continue to be productive, so visit http://afsapr.dodlive.mil/ band enter into the conversation. You may be helped; you may help someone else.
