March Firefighters don pink for cancer awareness

In observance of October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, March Fire Department firefighters wore pink
T-shirts at their Friday morning roll call to raise awareness of, and support for, fund raising efforts for local cancer
research and care centers. The firefighters participated in their sixth ‘Believe’ Walk in Redlands, Calif., Oct. 6,
2013.

October was Breast Cancer Awareness Month and employees in many federal, state, local agencies and commercial companies chose to observe the annual awareness month by donning pink. The White House was illuminated in pink light at night, major league baseball players wielded pink baseball bats and firefighters across the nation wore pink T-shirts.

The members of the March Fire Department were no exception and have always been active in supporting the local community.

Firefighter and president of the March Fire Department Association, Neal Jensen, adopted the color pink for Breast Cancer Awareness, and with the support of other members of the department decided to raise money for this worthwhile cause.

“We have all been touched by cancer in some way, said Jensen. “Whether it’s a family member, a friend, or ourselves. By selling the pink March Fire Department T-shirts, this gives us a chance to help.”

On Oct. 6 March firefighters participated in their sixth “Believe Walk” – a Stater Brothers Charity held in the city of Redlands. All moneys raised during the walk were donated for to local cancer research, to improve cancer care and support services for cancer patients and their families in the Inland Empire communities of Southern California.
