Tax Center volunteers reach astounding milestones

March VITA Tax Center is the only tax center in Santa Ana Territory that operates fully on a volunteer basis, which means that the volunteer team is one of the most important factors in keeping the doors open. As part of a continuing effort to recognize the volunteers’ sacrifice and expressing gratitude, our Tax Center began to keep track of volunteer hours under the Presidential Volunteer Service Awards program and will hold an award ceremony in early 2014 to recognize those volunteers who have excelled.

As of this week, the total volunteer hours at the Tax Center exceeded 2,500 hours. Several volunteers have earned the prestigious Presidential Volunteer Service Award.

“Effie White and Theeraya Kline have reached the Gold level, which is equivalent to more than 500 hours,” said Maj. Deric Prescott, 951st Reserve Support Squadron Staff Judge Advocate. “Staff Sgts. Richard Kline and Sara Luna, 912th Air Refueling Squadron, have reached the Silver level of 250 to 499 hours, and U.S. Army Major Anthony Gordon, Staff Judge Advocate of the 358th Civil Affairs Brigade and Marilyn Hackett have reached the Bronze level of between 100-249 hours.”

The good news is you can receive Presidential recognition too!

The Tax Center welcomes you to join the volunteer team and offers tax preparation training on December 2-6, 2013, for the IRS training and December 10-13, 2013, for California State . The training is completely free and very useful. Volunteers are strongly encouraged to contribute four hours a week during the upcoming tax season (January 15-April 15, 2014) and will have the flexibility to choose their volunteer time that fits their schedules. A reminder of our 24/7/365 responsibility to ourselves and each other

All Airmen have a responsibility that last much longer than a one-month campaign. This responsibility extends beyond ourselves and includes our work environment, our families, friends, fellow Airmen and our communities. While Suicide Prevention Month is observed across the United States in September, the month-long event is a reminder of everyone’s 24/7, 365-day responsibility to...

Life is all about choices

Back when I lived in the rural Midwest, late September and October was harvest time for the farming communities. For many frantic weeks, farmers would be out in the fields from morning to night, trying to beat the first snowfall, gathering in the crops they had planted earlier that spring. In southwest Minnesota the harvest...
