AFSFA’s 26-year history honors defenders

If you have served with the Air Police, Security Police or Security Forces on active duty, the Air National Guard or Reserve, you are eligible to become a member of the Air Force Security Forces Association or AFSFA, a professional, fraternal military organization with chapters in most of the fifty states and members worldwide.

Right here at March Air Reserve Base, we have the AFSFA California Inland Empire Chapter, which meets at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month in the 452nd SPS briefing room located in building 457.

With its National headquarters located in San Marcus, Texas, AFSFA membership spans several generations, encompassing the military policemen (air provost marshal) of World War II and continuing over the years to the men and women who are serving their first hitch today.

Since AFSFA’s origin in 1986, it has been a specific factor in preserving & enhancing the honor & pride that are inherent in the security forces career field, preserving the history of Security Forces from the early days of the U.S. Army Air Corps military police, through the Korean War, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Grenada and the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts; from the white caps & 1505 uniforms to the blue beret & the ABU uniform of today. AFSFA believes very passionately in the career field’s rich heritage and supporting today’s active duty, Guard and Reserve member, by maintaining the goal of always honoring the past, recognizing the present and preparing for the future.

In the past, AFSFA has provided aid and support to security forces members and their families who were victims of hurricane Katrina at Kessler Air Force Base, the organization has also contributed to the USAF Museum at Wright-Patterson AFB in Ohio, the USAF Security Forces Museum at Lackland AFB in Texas and the Air Base Defense Training Center at Camp Bullis, Texas. AFSFA will provide flags with the security forces motto “Defensor Fortis” to a deployed security forces unit upon request and assists units in linking up with the Security Forces Foundation.

Our local chapter is currently looking to sponsor an annual baseball game between the 163rd Air Guard Security Forces and the 452nd Security Forces Squadron troops. The chapter would supply the hotdogs and refreshments for free at each game and provide a nice trophy to the winning team each year. It is our hope to get both units behind this project.

What I like best about AFSFA is the camaraderie and how they protect our security forces history, as a retired security forces member and deputy sheriff with the LASD, helping fellow security forces defenders through AFSFA is my way of giving back.
