September 2015: The year in review

August 2015: The year in review

U.S. Army vehicles are staged on the March Field tarmac Aug. 5, 2015, in preparation for transportation to Fort Irwin, California, via airlift as part of Joint Operations Access Exercise (JOAX) 2015, Operation DRAGON SPEAR. March Field personnel provided its Army brethren a staging location for aircraft, vehicles and personnel during the week-long exercise.

The bulk of the 4th Combat Camera squadron’s camera and support equipment is loaded onto a C-17 Globemaster III at March Air Reserve Base, Aug., 3, 2015. The 15 pallets, worth about $4 million weighs in at 39,460 lbs. (19.73 tons) and completely fills the C-17s cargo compartment and is bound for Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. Although the 4th Combat Camera was inactivated on July 31, 40 members will be assigned as IMAs to the 3rd Combat Camera Squadron at Lackland. The process is in motion to stand the unit back up as a classic association unit of the 3 CTCS in October 2016.

Maj. Glenn ‘Tony’ Wright, 452nd Aerospace Medicine Squadron, March Air Reserve Base, stands amid rubble in the nation of Nepal while deployed there following a devastating earthquake in April 2015. Wright is an engineer, and an Urban Search and Rescue Specialist (USAR) for the Los Angeles County Fire Department’s (LACoFD) California Task Force 2 (CA-TF2), one of only two international USAR teams deployable from the U.S.

Team March Airmen and members from an elite 57-person team, known as the Urban Search and Rescue Task Force 2 (CA-TF2), load equipment on a C-17 Globemaster III aircraft at March ARB, Calif., April 26, 2015. The CA-TF2 team, sponsored by the Los Angeles County Fire Department, Calif., was activated by the U.S. Agency for International Development’s Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance on Sunday to deploy to Nepal in support of earthquake emergency rescue operations.

Capt. Jennifer Covington, 163rd Reconnaissance Wing, and her daughters place flags at Riverside National Cemetery for the Flag for Every Hero Memorial Day event. Flags remain in place throughout the holiday weekend.

April 2015: The year in review

February 2015: The year in review

Col. Russell Muncy, commander, 452nd Air Mobility Wing, March Air Reserve Base, California, and U.S. Congressman Ken Calvert, California’s 42nd district, unveil C-17 original nose art, created by Shayne Meder, Feb. 19, 2015 at a ceremony on base. The C-17, named The Spirit of Ronald Reagan, was the last C-17 delivered to March Field and the first C-17 there to receive nose art.

Eliot M. Cooper (center), assistant fire chief and C. Christianson (left), assistant chief of training, give Patrick Reitz, fire chief, Idyllwild Fire Protection District, a tour of the March FES facility Feb. 19, and highlight one of their newest firefighting weapons, the Rapid Intervention Vehicle. The RIV carries 400 gallons of water, has two tanks of foam and is able to go 70 miles per hour at full speed. Its main purpose is to get to the scene and start putting water on the fire quickly to help create an exit path for people, Christianson said.

A March KC-135 Stratotanker refuels a U.S. Air Force A-10 Warthog Jan. 30, 2015. The A-10s are providing combat air support in Iraq for Operation INHERENT RESOLVE. Coalition aircraft have been conducting air strikes against the Da’esh since August 2014.

Seven Airmen from the 163rd Reconnaissance Wing’s Security Forces Squadron, California Air National Guard, March Air Reserve Base, responded to the incident to provide assistance in securing the scene and preventing disturbance of the wreckage.

COMMISSARY GIVEAWAY, SANTA VISITS DEC. 21

The March Commissary is hosting Santa Claus on Monday, Dec. 21 from 1-2 p.m. and again from 4-5 p.m. for pictures and visits with kids of all ages. They will also be having hourly drawing for prizes for kids 12 and under from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Winners must be present. 

OEF/OIF (SOCAL VETS) SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE

Full scholarships are available to Southern California OEF/OIF Veterans to learn Transcendental Meditation. If you are interested in reducing stress, improving the quality of your sleep, and enjoying better relationships, the David Lynch Foundation is offering a limited number of free courses in the evidence-based Transcendental Meditation (TM) technique to OEF/OIF veterans in Los Angeles and San Diego.

Through a generous grant from the David Lynch Foundation, you will be able to learn the technique that has been proven to relieve symptoms of PTSD and major depression, and develop greater resilience to stress. The four-day course consists of a 90-minute class each day, and then the technique is practiced for 20 minutes, twice a day. No change in beliefs or lifestyle is needed to learn TM.

• Simple to learn: Accessible to both civilian and military practitioners—standardized instruction ensures consistent results

MARCH EQUAL OPPORTUNITY SEEKS COUNSELORS

The March EO office is looking for ARTs/civilians interested in training to serve as Collateral Equal Opportunity counselors. This is an additional duty appointment. The Collateral EO counselors serve as a bridge between civilian employees and management for informal complaints concerning discrimination. Applicants should be at ease with oral and written communication to all pay grades, and have the ability to remain neutral while performing his or her duties. The additional duty will not exceed 20 percent of the counselor’s primary job duties. Applicants range from GS-05 to GS-12 or equivalent. Primary supervisor concurrence required.
