Military friendly schools and employers gathered in the Sonoran Pueblo to give station residents a glimpse at their future Monday.
The college and career fair had 38 prospective employers and colleges, all looking for a few good men and women to transfer from the Corps’ ranks to theirs.
The fair, open to all active duty personnel, dependents, station civilian personnel and retires, was designed to allow participants to get some face time with representatives from the various colleges, trade schools and employers to get more information on the programs they offer.
“It gives Marines who are getting out a chance to see things they might not even know existed,†said former Marine CJ Schneider, from Yavapai College’s Guidance Aviation program. “When I got out, I took a chance and packed up all of my things and came to Arizona. I’d never been here before, but someone had given me a card saying I could learn to fly helicopters. Twenty months later, I’m teaching other people to fly helicopters, and I can go anywhere in the country to do it.â€
The schools in attendance are all familiar with military tuition assistance benefits and the GI Bill, and all accommodate the needs of former military service members.
