Hiring our Heroes Job Fair

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce along with several other federal, state and local veteran employment agencies are hosting a job fair for military veterans, active duty, guard, reserve members and military spouses on Sept. 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Louis Levy Disabled American Veterans Chapter 11 in Yuma, Ariz.  Job seekers can expect to find both government and non-government employers who are ready to hire so bring your resumes and a smile:)  For registration questions, please contact Bruce Hamilton at (520)750-5891 or email: More information can be found at


Somerton to host Fiestas Patrias

The City of Somerton is scheduled to hold their 13th annual Fiestas Patrias, a free cultural celebration, on Friday, Sept. 14 beginning at 7 p.m. at the Council Avenue Park in Somerton. The event will include Mexican art exhibits, music performances, food eating contests and water activities for children.  Please visit for more details of the event.


Partial Closure of Sonoran Pueblo

The Sonoran Pueblo is scheduled to have new carpet installed over the coming weeks. From Sept. 17-28, the lunch buffet will move to Club Pulse.  Menu dining will still be available to all ranks from 6 to 9 p.m. daily.  The SNCO and Officer Clubs will be closed from Sept. 15-22.  Additionally, no catering services will be available from Sept. 15-28.


Undergrad Information for Service Members 

MCAS Miramar is hosting information sessions for those seeking undergraduate degrees beginning in September.  These sessions are open to members of all the Military Services.

*Universities/Colleges participating:

Sept. 17 at 3 p.m., Yale University

Oct. 1 at 3 p.m., Dartmouth College

Oct. 15 at 3 p.m., University of Chicago

Nov. 5 All Day, Columbia University

USO Sound Off Survey

The survey is designed to determine what programs and services service members and families find most valuable and will only take about 10 minutes to complete. The survey will be available from Sept. 4 thru Oct. 2; everyone who completes the survey will be entered in a drawing to receive a $500 Visa gift card. The survey is available online at


Yuma Young Marines

Tuition Assistance Reminder

The end of the fiscal year is approaching so please remember to have all tuition assistance application requests brought to the Education Center (Bldg 598) by Sep. 12 for classes that start between Sep. 13-30.  In addition, all TA requests for classes that begin on or after Oct. 1 will be able to be processed after Oct. 1.
