Frequently Asked Questions

1. Are all of my children eligible for automatic family coverage?

Any unmarried dependent child under the age of 18 is automatically covered under family insurance. This includes natural born children, legally adopted children, and stepchildren who are members of the Servicemember’s household. In addition, unmarried children who, after attaining the age of 18 years and until completion of education or training (but not after attaining the age of 23 years), are pursuing a course of instruction at an approved educational institution are covered. And any unmarried child who became permanently incapable of self-support before the age of 18 is covered.

 

2. Will the Marine Corps reimburse hotel expenses?

When executing PCS orders, Marines are entitled to either a Temporary Lodging Expense (TLE) or Temporary Lodging Allowance (TLA). TLE is used for the lodging  expenses within 50 miles of the Marines current or future duty station. TLA is used for lodging expenses within 50 miles

of the Marines new duty station outside the continental United States.

 

3.What type of orders will I receive if I am attending an MOS related school in conjunction with my PCS?

There are two distinct different types of orders you may receive to a school.  Duty Under Instruction (DUINS) is for school in excess of 20 weeks and will be treated as your Permanent Duty Station. Temporary Duty Under Instruction (TEMINS) is for school less than 20 weeks and is normally completed enroute to your next Permanent Duty Station.

 

4. What happens when my punishment for NJP has been suspended, and then gets vacated?

The Commanding Officer can suspend any punishment awarded up to 6 months. During this 6 month period a Marine will be observed ensuring corrective actions have been established. If a Marine fails to conduct themselves according to Marine Corps standards the Commanding Officer can then vacate the punishment at any time during the 6 month period and reinstate the suspended punishment from the NJP.

 

5. While on weight control can a Marine be removed if they make Marine Corps height and weight standards?

Per MCO 6110.3 part 4f (1-2 Marines on their first BCP assignment who comply with established weight and body composition standards  at the conclusion of their 6 month assignment period may be removed or extended by their Commander/OIC .  Marines on their second or subsequent assignment who comply with established weight and body composition standards can be removed at any time during their 6 month assignment.

 

6. I was told that I rate a NUC while on deployment; what documentation do I need in order to have this award reported?

Take a copy of the MARADMIN for the NUC, your Chronological record (Page 3) from Marine Online, and any source documents that will provide evidence that you were attached to the unit specified on the MARADMIN to your unit S-1.
