Construction for the static display of the Beechcraft C-12B Huron, known simply as the C-12, continues, as of Oct. 16., next to station headquarters.
The UC-12B has been a workhorse at MCAS Yuma for well over 20 years. This aircraft has been utilized for transport and cargo missions, countless VIP missions and support of military operations between naval air stations. During the last 20+ years, MCAS Yuma has supported thousands of joint operational support airlift center missions utilizing the UC-12B.
Due to its significance to MCAS Yuma, the MCAS Yuma requested that one UC-12B be retained for a static display at the MCAS Yuma Aviation Memorial Site.
The UC-12B was approved for retention in late 2011 and the contract was awarded in September 2012 to add the UC-12B to MCAS Yuma’s Aviation Memorial collection.
Work is underway now to complete the base for the incoming C-12. The C-12 has been hallowed and sealed in preparation for its display. It is scheduled to be moved in to place on Mon, Oct. 22 and the project completed by the end of Oct. 2012.
The project is meant to preserve the history of the station’s aviation legacy.
