To all Personnel and Families of Marine Corps Installations West-Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton:
We have a responsibility to our children to provide each with maximum opportunities to learn. With the advancement of technology and science, our children must be afforded the highest quality of education that will not only allow them to compete in a global economy, but also thrive as global citizens.
As parents, you can work toward quality education in the public schools by fulfilling a simple responsibility: completing and returning the Federal Impact Aid Survey Card distributed by your child’s school. Federal Impact Aid is a program in which all schools in districts with a substantial federal government presence participate.
The program is designed to directly compensate local school districts for: (1) local revenue lost due to the presence of federally owned, and therefore tax- exempt, property and (2) costs incurred due to “federally connected” students, such as the children of armed services personnel working at a nearby military base. Unlike most other forms of educational assistance, Impact Aid disburses roughly $1.3 billion annually in unrestricted federal funds directly to local school districts rather than through state agencies.
Your child will be bringing home the Federal Survey Card from school in the early part of October. By investing a few minutes of your time to complete and return this card, you allow your school to accurately report the number of military dependents enrolled. This important data is the only way that our schools are able to qualify for Federal Impact Aid funding.
Unfortunately, schools do not receive their full share of funding under this program due to non-return of many cards . Your help is needed in this area.
Your involvement is the best way to ensure that our military-impacted public schools receive the proper amount of federal aid dollars in order to sustain the educational needs of our students. Working together on school funding issues, we will ensure t hat our children are provided the highest quality of education available to them.
